Notts County 1 Dagenham & Redbridge 0
Saturday was another good day out but not so good on the pitch where we huffed and puffed but blew nobody’s house down. So again the wrong result after looking like we’d get a point. Most frustrating!
Things started badly when it was clear from the warm up personnel that our forward line was largely unavailable, and then Magnus injured himself before kick off, even if Ross Smith did prove a more than adequate deputy.
Notts County did look the weakest of the teams we’ve met so far. They seemed to lack that one player that could change a game. All the other opponents I’ve seen so far appear to possess such a player (if not more than
one). However they did kill us with that other League 2 trick; a ‘super’ sub – it happened at Stockport and at home to Wycombe.
Ironically on this occasion the home goal came just minutes after we had substituted a forward for a midfielder. Hey ho, the luck’s just not going our way at the moment.
It’s certainly not for lack of trying - we competed well for much of the match, even passed the ball around capably on the excellent surface, but created very little at all. Will we ever score an away League goal!? Not until Benson (definitely) and Nurse (probably/possibly) come back 100% fit into the side.
At least we’re visiting some impressive grounds though. Maybe we’ll have a stadium like Meadow Lane in a few years time!
Other thoughts on the Nottingham day out:
- Horrible design to the back of the County shirts!
- Station cheeseburger better than similar concoction at Stockport
- Not until page 22 in the match day programme that you discover anything about the opposition!
So, we anxiously look forward to Saturday when, as has already been quipped elsewhere, we need to bury Bury. Looking at their forum they really are down in the dumps at the moment so we must have a chance (if we turn up as any sort of an attacking force that is).
I’m enjoying the ride though – the football is better than Conference, it’s fast and end to end (Saturday excepted on all these counts), the away trips new and fun. Just keep going guys (that’s players and supporters alike)!
There must be 2 worse teams by the end of the season….surely!
