Strevens Double Sinks 'Fleet
The Daggers ended their spell in the Nationwide Conference today with a solid 2-1 victory over Gravesend & Northfleet at Victoria Road.

The hosts started the brighter, but it was the visitors who nearly took the lead when, in the 15th minute, Sam Saunders (right) was adjudged to have fouled Peter Hawkins in the area.

From the resulting penalty, 'Fleet top scorer, Charlie Macdonald was denied by a fine save from Tony Roberts (left).

Three minutes later, however, and the Daggers took the lead when Ben Strevens slotted home from a Sam Sloma cross.

With 32 minutes on the clock, the visitors won a corner on the left and Ross Smith rose above the Daggers defence to head powerfully home to level the scores.

Three minutes later, however, the Daggers were back in front when Ben Strevens (right) reacted quickest to flick home from a corner.

The second half was dominated by a series of dubious offside decisions which continually interrupted the flow of the match.

Tim Cole(left) was intruduced to the action in the 56th minute and was coping well at the back until an injury to Conference top scorer, Paul Benson forced Cole to play up front for the last 25 minutes in what was almost his swansong for the Daggers.

There were to be no more goals, however, and the final whistle brought applause from both sets of supporters for the Champions.

After the match, the Daggers were awarded their medals and the Conference Trophy and paraded their prize around Victoria Road.

So the Daggers end their second spell in the Conference having racked up 200 wins from their 466 games and head into the unknown territory that is League 2 next season.  It's going to be an interesting ride.
