An unhappy man

Gomis MIA Mystery Solved
by Hardy on 15/02/2005

The Daggers recent signing Morgaro Gomis has been conspicuous by his absence. Now we know why.

Gomis MIA Mystery Solved
The Daggers announced the signing of French midfielder Morgaro Gomis on the 21st of January, since when he has not been seen at the club.

The reason for the non-appearance of the player, likened to a young Patrick Vieira, was queried a few times on the forum and a few snippets about issues with the contract had been given back. It now appears that Mr. Gomis is following the Nicholas Anelka route to footballing success with his agent being the reason that he has yet to show up at the Glyn Hopkin Stadium.

In a news item at the Daggers Official Site John Still (right) has finally had his say on the issue and unsurprisingly he's very frustrated at the way events have gone since he signed Gomis to give him a chance of stepping up two levels in the pyramid.

With Jake Leberl suspended this would have been an obvious chance for Gomis to have a couple of first team starts in a position where the lack of cover in the squad has seen Paul Bruce, Anni Uddin and Lee Goodwin forced to play out of position at various times during the season.

Instead it seems that Gomis has been sitting on his hands at the behest of his agent who feels his client has signed a contract without his participation.

John is quoted as saying: "We signed Morgaro Gomis from Windsor & Eton in accordance with all the rules and regulations in mid-January then, out of nowhere, an agent has appeared.  The agent is now contesting the legality of the contract because, as his agent, he wasn’t involved.

“We told him it is the sole responsibility of the player to tell us about any agents being involved and he didn’t and he’s signed a contract. So it’s his responsibility. What the agent is now saying is that the player won’t play for us. We’ve told the agent that the player’s signed for us so he’s our player. If he doesn’t come then he doesn’t come but he’s a contracted player for Dagenham & Redbridge Football Club.

“Therefore, there’s a stalemate at the moment as we won’t budge”

There is obviously a lot more mileage in this story yet, but I would now be surprised to see Morgaro Gomis ever take the field in a Daggers shirt now. If he doesn't want to play for us fine, bye, have a nice career at Windsor & Eton.
