Daggers news

News Update (22nd May)
by Hardy on 22/05/2003

Squad non-news, friendly fixtures (already changed) and the latest on the fat Scottish bloke in the first of the close season news updates.

No news on moves
So far there is no news regarding squad changes for the coming season and with Garry Hill (right) now away on a well deserved break, it is unlikely that much will come out for another couple of weeks.

It is understood that Garry spoke to most of the squad before he went away.

Daggers pre-season fixtures so far
Dagenham & Redbridge have confirmed their pre-season fixtures set so far for July and August, and then promptly changed the date of the West Country tour. The modified dates are:

Date Against Venue Time
Saturday 19th July West Ham United XI* Home 3:00pm
Tuesday 22nd July Canvey Island Away 7:45pm
Friday 25th July Bideford Away 7:30pm
Saturday 26th July Tiverton Town Away 3:00pm
Wednesday 30th July Chelmsford City (at Billericay) Away 7:45pm
Saturday 2nd August Queens Park Rangers Home 3:00pm

* The Daggers are unsure what strength side to put out as the opposition is only a First Division club.

Other games are in the pipeline and will be notified as soon as they are confirmed.

Tony Roberts' testimonial game, QPR v Charlton Athletic will take place at Loftus Road on the 4th August..

Evans appeal denied but...
Steve Evans appeal against his conviction by the FA for falsifying player contracts when manager at Boston United and then attempting bribery to cover up during the subsequent investigation has been completely turned down. The 8,000 fine and 20 month ban from football imposed by the FA tribunal has also been confirmed and a proportion of the costs for the appeal were awarded against Evans.

Unbelievably the ban has effectively been reduced by eight months by being backdated to the date Evans was suspended from his post at Boston United, the 4th July 2002, rather than the original date of 3rd March 2003. This means that Evans is free to seek employment in football from March 2004 and could be managing a club again before the end of next season.

The FA descends into laughing stock again. See the FA announcement here.
