Daggers Suffer Penalty Anguish
The Daggers tonight bowed out of the FA Trophy, losing on penalties to Southport at Haig Avenue.

The first half was fast paced with both sides having opportunities to take the lead but remained goal-less until added time when Steve Pickford fired the home side in front.

The Daggers deservedly pulled level nine minutes after the break through Lee Matthews (left) and took the lead through Paul Terry (right) on 67 minutes.

With the Daggers seemingly headed into a 5th Round match with Gloucester City, they succumbed to another injury time goal when a wonder-strike from Thompson made the score 2-2 with only seconds left.

The match headed into extra time but neither side was able to break the deadlock and the match went to a penalty shootout.

Junior McDougald, Danny Shipp and Lee Matthews scored their penalties for the Daggers but despite Paul Gothard saving Southport's 4th penalty, misses from Danny Hill (right) and Tim Cole left it to the last Southport penalty taker, Pickford, to send Gothard the wrong way and send the hosts through.
