Barnet Report
by Nelson on 28/12/2002

An early Paul Terry goal is not enough to prevent the Daggers losing at Barnet. A 31st minute equaliser and a late Junior Agogo goal hand the Bees the points.

Unbeaten Record Falls
The Daggers lost for the first time in ten matches to a very late goal from Barnet dangerman, Junior Agogo, despite taking the lead in the first minute of the match.

The Daggers started the game brilliantly with Paul Terry (left) lashing home a superb John McGrath left wing cross with only 41 seconds on the clock.

With the visitors seemingly in total control during the opening half hour, it seemed only a matter of time before the lead would be doubled.

On one occasion, a clearance was miskicked by the Bees' goalkeeper, Danny Naisbitt, ending up in the corner of the field. Junior McDougald latched onto the loose ball, only to be deliberately fouled by Naisbitt, but the referee decided not to card the goalkeeper where some referees would have adjudged this to be worthy of at least a yellow card.

Soon afterwards, Danny Shipp (right) appeared to be felled in the area when through on goal, but the Referee didn't even give a foul when either it was a penalty or Shipp was guilty of diving.

The home side had mustered little during the first half hour, so it came as some surprise when they levelled the scores in the 31st minute, a pinpoint cross from Mark Gower being met by the head of Greg Heald. Tony Roberts managed to get a hand to the header, but was unable to prevent the ball from flying into the corner of the net.

The balance of the match appeared to swing Barnet's way somewhat with the visitors seemingly happy to see the match out to half time.

The second half saw the Daggers getting a little more into the match, but neither side were creating many clear chances. It was clear that the Daggers were happy to play for a draw, but in the 77th minute, a challenge by Shipp earned him a caution and two minutes later, he was harshly dismissed by the referee for kicking the ball away, despite it appearing that he had kicked the ball as the whistle was blown.

The one-man advantage began to show more and the hosts nearly took an immediate advantage when Roberts (left) pulled off an incredible save from a close-range Purser header.

In the 4th minute of added time and with only seconds remaining, Agogo latched onto a long through ball and despite clearly fouling two defenders, struck the ball home off the diving Roberts to hand the hosts a barely deserved three points.
