News Update
by Hardy on 24/07/2002

An update on triallists coming and going and potential signings following the four pre-season rriendlies played by the Daggers so far.

Oates Released

Garry Hill has released triallist Greg Oates, formerly an Arsenal reserve, following the firiendly games earlier in the week. Oates, a full back, played in the 1-0 win over East Thurrock United on Monday night.

Garry, who was at the other match at Erith & Belvedere on Monday told Oates that the player wasn't better than he already had in the squad and he wouldn't get a contract at Victoria Road.

It is reported that Oates signed for Conference rivals Margate this morning.

Manny Sarpong
Meanwhile another triallist, Ghanan striker Emmanuel Sarpong, who scored the only goal at East Thurrock, will be watched again by the Daggers management at one of the two games on Saturday. The Daggers again split their squad to play at Boreham Wood and Great Wakering Rovers on Saturday afternoon.

Sarpong has played for Racing Genk in Belgian Div 1 (14 games 4 goals), RC Gent in Belgian Div 3A, Westerlo, Tongeren, Hekelgem (9 games 2 goals) and UR Namur, who are an amateur team in the Belgian fourth division. He has scored over 100 goals in Belgian football. Manny has also trialled with Halifax Town late last year but didn't sign due to Halifax's money troubles, and also at Shrewsbury Town.

Paul Bruce impresses
Former QPR player Paul Bruce impressed observers in the West Country and is understood to be talking to Garry Hill about a contract for next season. Paul plays on the left hand side of the field either at left back or left sided midfield and seems the perfect replacement for Jason Broom and Matt Jones, both released at the end of last season.
