The Daggers tonight were thoroughly beaten by Canvey Island in the Essex Senior
Cup final. Due to the Essex FA's insistence on this match being played the
day before the Daggers' vital Conference match against Hereford United, Garry
fielded an exceptionally weak team, consisting of third choice keeper, Neville
Southall, Steve Vaughan, Paul Piscopides, Mark Brennan and a handful of relative
unknowns. The only other exception being the return of Daggers' folk-hero,
Youness Nabil.
The match report is as follows:
Canvey scored, we equalised then they scored again. Second half, Canvey
scored another four.
The Daggers side probably went on a warm-down lap. Canvey almost
certainly paraded the trophy to their supporters.
So, we lost 6-1. It equals our heaviest ever defeat. Canvey
probably feel that the win is devalued. Our fans feel let down.
Hopefully the suits at the Essex FA will learn a lesson from this, but
somehow we doubt it.
It's back to the serious business tomorrow!
