You're The Ref
by Nelson on 23/01/2002

How much do you know about the laws of association football? Every week, we will be posting a refereeing poser for you. Take a look at this week's poser.

You're The Ref
You are the referee. The balance of the match depends on you.

Here's this week's poser:

You are refereeing a match at a ground without floodlights.

With 35 minutes of the first half gone, it's starting to get dark and you don't think you'll be able to play the full 90 minutes before it gets too dark to play.

What is the correct decision?

Do you:

A. Shorten the first half to 35 minutes and play a full second half

B. Play the full length first half and a 35 minutes second half

C. Shorten both halves to 35 minutes

D. Do not take a half-time interval

E. Play the match as normal until it requires to be abandoned

The answer to last week's poser was B. You should allow the goal and caution the player.
