You're The Ref
by Nelson on 16/01/2002

How much do you know about the laws of association football? Every week, we will be posting a refereeing poser for you. Take a look at this week's poser.

You're The Ref
You are the referee. The balance of the match depends on you.

Here's this week's poser:

The attacking team have a great chance to score when their striker, having beaten the defence to the ball, lashes in a fierce shot.

With the 'keeper beaten, it looks like being a certain goal until the defender on the line launches himself full stretch at the ball and deliberately handles in an attempt to prevent the goal. Despite getting a strong contact on the ball, he can only help it into the net.

What is the correct decision?

Do you:

A. Allow the goal to stand and dismiss the player

B. Allow the goal and caution the player

C. Allow the goal and take no further action

D. Award a penalty and dismiss the player

E. Award a penalty and caution the player

F. Award a penalty and take no further action

Answer and a new poser next week.
