Recent History

Having come up through the leagues like a rocket and being promoted to the Conference from the Isthmian in 1993/94, Stevenage Borough are one of the more frustrating sides in the Conference, always predicted to do well, but in recent years being very inconsistent. They won the Conference in 1995/96 only to be refused promotion due to their ground not being up to standard in time. Having rectified that they have never quite been able to repeat the feat.

They have a reputation of win or bust and have been involved in a few unsavoury tactics over the years which makes them almost every other teams club they most enjoy beating which is possibly why it never quite all comes together.  The latest scam was luring away Graham Westley and many of Farnborough Town's squad, and their FA Cup money, in the middle of the 2002/03 season while deep in the relegation battle. The move worked lifting them from odds on for relegation in January to 12th at the end of the season.

They were installed as one of the favourites in 2003/04 and struggled to 8th place. they will no doubt again be among the favourites this season and will no doubt disappoint once more.

Their best FA Cup run saw them reach the 4th round in 1997/98 where they drew at home with Newcastle United before losing the replay at St James Park. True to form they managed to piss Newcastle off too with various remarks in the papers before the replay.

In 2001/02 they reached the FA Trophy final, losing out to Yeovil Town at Villa Park.

Their ten season league record stands as follows
